Our company name is inspired by the principle that all application changes need to be thoroughly tested for operability, performance and security before deployment into an IT operations environment.
Who owns your company?
Loren Burnett, President and CEO, founded the company in December 2005. In April 2006, StackSafe received $2.5 million in Series A financing from Novak Biddle Venture Partners and Chart Venture Partners. Novak Biddle offers extensive past experience serving on the boards of numerous successful early stage companies. Chart Venture Partners provides particular expertise working with companies seeking to commercialize technologies produced by the academic community.
What is your main business focus in Fairfax County?
StackSafe is headquartered in Vienna, VA. Our software development, marketing and business management activities are executed from our headquarters office.
Who are your primary customers?
StackSafe is targeting IT operations teams responsible for the management, uptime and care and feeding of multi-tier business applications and their supporting infrastructure. Our product enables IT operations teams to make and safely test changes before they are implemented in the live environment.
Our initial target vertical markets include financial services, e-commerce, IT outsourcing, energy, manufacturing, retail and government. Further, StackSafe targets departments and organizations with more than 1,000 employees.
What sets you apart from your competition?
To our knowledge, there are no current direct competitors to the StackSafe offering. This finding has been further validated by industry analysts who have described our target market as a “greenfield opportunity.”

StackSafe currently has 18 employees – of which 16 are based in Fairfax County.

As the company continues to grow we expect to hire approximately 30 additional employees over the next 12 months.

Being located in Fairfax County allows StackSafe to attract the best and brightest technology professionals in the region while still benefiting from reasonably priced office space available in the area. The members of our executive team, for example, have local connections and are members of organizations such as the Northern Virginia Technology Council (NVTC) located in Herndon, VA. Additionally, we are close to key transportation hubs, like Dulles International Airport, as well as major urban centers such as Washington, D.C., and Baltimore, MD.
